TaylorMade stands as the industry’s top designer of drivers, and the distance and speed that they have incorporated into their drivers can be seen throughout their lines of clubs. In addition to drivers, the company offers outstanding fairway woods, rescue clubs, and irons. A popular choice is the Burner SuperFast series of clubs, a set that uses advanced technology to achieve faster swings, faster ball speeds, and longer drives.

The TaylorMade Burner Superfast #5 Fairway Woods are a recently released update to previous fairway woods in the series. With the Burner SuperFast woods, TaylorMade has created their lightest woods and largest clubheads yet. This #5 wood is made to replace traditional 5-irons, which often do not get the distance or have the accuracy of the fairway wood.

Released in 2010, the TaylorMade Burner Superfast #5 Fairway Woods are the new take on TaylorMade’s already popular Burner SuperFast clubs. The name of the game with this wood is speed. To ramp up the speed, TaylorMade has slimmed down the club. Its head has ultra-thin walls that are slimmer than the competition by as much as 40 percent. The Matrix Ozik X-Con 4.8 graphite shaft is lightweight, as is the Winn grip that weighs in at 30g. In total, the #5 fairway wood has an impressive weight of 301g.

Even with the club’s lower weight, the wood does not sacrifice control or size. The clubhead is the largest the company has offered in a fairway wood, and the large sweetspot promises more forgiveness. Its headshape is slightly redesigned as well to be more aerodynamic.

The TaylorMade Burner Superfast #5 Fairway Woods have received high marks for style, playability, and performance. The club’s larger head and sweetspot have allowed players to hit more consistently and feel more confident in tough spots of the course. The club did improve both distance and speed for players; in tests, players saw an average increase of 5mph in swing speed.

Off the tee, the fairway wood performs almost as well as a high-end driver, getting plenty of distance. On the grass, the wood shined by giving many golfers a gain of as much as 20 or 30 yards over their previous clubs. TaylorMade’s fairway wood enabled players to “get more controlled shots with greater distance” with a club that is “light and easy to swing.”
