A 2010 Golf Digest Hot List winner, the Callaway Diablo Edge Fairway Wood was created to exceed the performance of its predecessor, Callaway’s famous Big Bertha Diablo. The Diablo Edge Fairway Wood is the longest and straightest wood Callaway has made, and it gets an impressive 10 to 12 yards more in distance than the Big Bertha.
Designed for casual players, this fairway wood has a full offset shaft, larger clubhead, and substantial Variable Face Thickness technology. Many of Callaway’s core technologies are included: perimeter weighting, aggressive face pattern, and aerodynamic design.
It’s no surprise that this fairway wood is another award-winning design from the California-based Callaway Golf. Callaway has continued to excel at its mission of helping golfers of all skill levels find more enjoyment and success on the course.
The Callaway Diablo Edge Fairway Wood is known for offering the longest, straightest drive that Callaway has offered. It accomplishes this feat with its larger clubhead and more aggressive technology. A Callaway exclusive, Variable Face Thickness, or VFT, technology builds the club with a face that is thicker in the center and thinner on the edges. The center’s thickness maximizes ball speed and provides greater forgiveness.
With perimeter weighting, the fairway woods have a higher moment of inertia that the company has offered; a higher moment of inertia means less chance of twisting and more forgiveness. The fairway wood has a loft of 15 degrees, a lie of 56 degrees, a length of 43 inches, and a swing weight of D2. Callaway offers a two-year warranty on the club.
The Callaway Diablo Edge Fairway Wood’s gold medal on the 2010 Hot List is a clear indication of its quality, innovation, and performance. This list put out by Golf Digest is the result of club reviews by hundreds of golf pros and tour players. Professional and media reviews have pegged the club as “hard to hit a bad shot with” and “confidence boosting.”
Mid- and high-handicappers, especially, have rated this wood highly. Perfect for gaining more distance and ensuring a straight shot, the wood has a nice, solid feel and a light weight, which is easy to handle. With Callaway’s distinctive sharp looks and confidence-inspiring offset shaft, players saw game improvement using this club. Some more experienced players may prefer the tour version of this wood, however.
